Our Church Building.
In true Yorkshire style, bluntly put, Bingley URC needs a new roof. It all started with gutter leaks, investigations, plans, scaffolding, and whilst preparing to re-line the 200+ year old gutter, the original stone slates began to delaminate and crumble. Work was suspended, as the scaffolding was also to allow access to the ridge and replace or reset our ridge tiles as appropriate. This would require walking on the roof and although we have had some very heavy downpours recently, none as heavy as Yorkshire workmen and thus the slates have served their days and need replacing.
After many phone calls between Ray Gregory and various professionals ,Synod, visits to the roof etc, regarding options and costs, he broke the news to the Elders. The costs involved in all but one option (Do nothing and patch repair the leaks as and when they occur) are high and at the church meeting last night members voted to replace the whole roof as soon as is practical. This will cost in the region of £127,000 including scaffolding and lining the gutter, the original problem!
